Studies of the giant dipole resonance in Hot Sn nuclei

Comprehensive studies of the all of the important reaction products in ¹⁸O + ¹⁰⁰Mo collisions have been undertaken in order to understand the temperature evolution of the GDR in hot Sn nuclei. Detailed measurements of gamma-rays, protons, alpha-particles and evaporation residues performed at NPL allow us to quantify important preequilibrium and bremsstrahlung effects and permit an accurate extraction of the GDR properties. The results bear strongly on the persistence of collective motion in nuclei under conditions of extreme temperature.
