Project 8 uses Cyclotron Radiation Emission Spectroscopy (CRES) to probe the mass of the neutrino. Tritium beta decay is the mechanism for measuring the neutrino mass with CRES. In order for project 8 to set a neutrino mass limit at 40meV, it is essential to develop a cold atomic tritium source. The production of a cold hydrogen beam line is ongoing at UW, and we are developing diagnostic tools to characterize the beam at various stages. My talk will focus on the use of a beam chopper to measure time of flight and extract a velocity distribution.
