Observation of 83mKr-induced surface beta events on Majorana/LEGEND detector (high purity Ge detector).

Abstract:

Current Majorana Low E spectrum contains a Pb peak at 46.5 keV, but is missing some related peaks, indicating some interesting response of Majorana/LEGEND detectors at low energy. A program, called KrSTC, has been started at UW to investigate this. This program utilizes conversion electron, gamma, x-ray, and Auger emissions from meta-stable 83Kr. We have started to use a ‘new’ source recently and were able to take some amount of good data with it. In this talk I’ll show some preliminary analysis of those good data. But after that good run, we haven’t been able to get any more good data, so I’ll also talk about our efforts on investigating and mitigating the reasons behind that.
