Reconstructing the muon momentum: a lingering systematic effect in Muon g-2

Abstract:

The measured muon precession frequency has to be corrected for the effect of the electric field, which requires a reconstruction of the muons' momentum. The reconstruction is distorted by a time-dependent effect introduced in the beam injection process, which dominates the uncertainty on the E-field correction and remains a significant systematic. I will discuss our ongoing efforts to characterize this effect using an in-beam detector built at CENPA.
