Testing for Microdischarges in High Voltage Feedthroughs

Abstract:

LEGEND-1000 will use high voltage feedthroughs used to bias germanium detectors in the search for neutrino less double beta decay. These feedthroughs need to meet certain voltage specifications and are also at risk for microdischarges that affect the detectors dead time and can even show up as signal. At CENPA, we tested these feedthroughs for their micro discharge rates and checked their voltage rating at levels of gaseous Argon mimicking the set up of the LEGEND experiment. I will talk about the measurements we found and compare them to the LEGEND-200 and Majorana microdischarge experiments in order to find appropriate feedthroughs that will suit LEGEND-1000.
