DPHaSE: The Dielectric Powder Haloscope SNSPD Experiment

Abstract:

DPHaSE is a broadband axion and dark photon search targeting QCD axion-photon couplings in the 10 meV-eV mass range. The haloscope makes use of dark matter to photon conversion on the surface of disordered dielectric powder, with conversion rate proportional to surface area. To achieve sensitivity in this mass range, our dielectric haloscope maximizes surface area using micron-sized particles in a disordered dielectric target coupled to a Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detector (SNSPD). I will present recent work on the design of the disordered dielectric target and characterization of dielectric powders.
