Abstract:
The DAMA/LIBRA experiment has claimed the observation of an annual modulation signal consistent with dark matter interactions in NaI(Tl) crystal detectors. Their claim and the surrounding controversy have persisted for over two decades. In their most recently published results, the DAMA collaboration reported a significance exceeding 15σ based on their full dataset.
The COSINE-100 experiment was designed to provide an independent and model-independent test of the DAMA/LIBRA claim, using the same target material and analysis methodology. Using a lowered energy threshold(0.49keV) and an improved background model, we analyzed the full 6-year COSINE-100 dataset and find no evidence of an annual modulation signal. Our results disfavor the DAMA/LIBRA signal at more than 3σ in ev possible scenarios.
In this talk, I will present the final COSINE-100 results that conclusively settle the long-standing DAMA/LIBRA controversy.
